Hymen Restoration
in Newport Beach

The hymen is the thin tissue membrane that surrounds the opening of the vagina. Many cultures consider the hymen to be a symbol of virginity because it often tears when a woman has sex for the first time. While sexual intercourse can break the hymen, other factors such as tampons, exercise, or riding a bike can also cause the hymen to tear. It is also important to note that not all women have bleeding or a torn hymen during their first experience with intercourse.

Model

The hymen can be restored with a surgical procedure known as hymen restoration surgery, or hymenoplasty.

Am I a Candidate for Hymen Restoration Surgery?

Candidates for hymen restoration are women who have a torn hymen and wish to have it restored for cultural, religious, psychological, or personal reasons. Hymen restoration candidates must:

  • Be in generally good health
  • Have realistic expectations of their results

No matter your reasons for undergoing hymen restoration surgery, you can feel confident that your surgery will be confidential. Dr. Yu understands the importance of a restored hymen for many women and works to provide you with your desired results. During your consultation with Dr. Yu, he will determine if you are a good candidate for hymenoplasty.

How Is Hymen Restoration Performed?

Hymen restoration surgery is performed using a local anesthetic and sedation or general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Dr. Yu will take a thin layer of tissue from your vaginal wall and attach it to the vaginal opening to reconstruct your hymen.

What Is the Recovery From Hymen Restoration Surgery Like?

Generally, recovery after hymen restoration is fairly easy. You may experience pain and discomfort in the first few days. Pain medication can be taken as needed to combat this. Additionally, you may notice light bleeding; this is normal and should only last a few days. Many women can return to work and other regular activities in one to three days. However, you should avoid strenuous activity for at least a week.

It will also be important to follow any post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Yu to ensure proper healing.

What Results Can I Expect After Hymen Restoration?

After hymen restoration surgery, you should expect an intact hymen that looks similar to the one that tore. The thin tissue taken from the vaginal wall and placed where the hymen was will restore the appearance and functionality of your initial hymen.
